Now what is so fancy? Well, the friend w
as from the 1960's.
Here is the story....
My job at my church was to make the visitors feel welcome and glad they were visiting. The meeting
was at the point where the opening prayer was
being said. Suddenly, a loud motorcycle was heard
just outside the east windows. The rider was
gunning his motor, and you can imagine how that
was when all were silent, listening to the prayer
being said. Our Minister is called a Bishop.... and
he was looking at me.
I felt panic... what to do....? I had never had this
experience and though quickly. If I went out and
had the rider move the motor to the rear of the
building, then perhaps he would shut off the motor.
As I stood, and began walking, I felt every eye in
the room looking at me. The person giving the
prayer, was also glaring at me. Never was I so
happy to get out of the chappel, as I was at that
time.
When I closed the door behind me, I saw a "Hell's
Angel on his motocycle, and his "Mall" behind him.
I had him ride his bike out of the patio, and down
the steps (he had riden up) onto the driveway. We
went to the rear of the church, and I indicated for
him to park the vehicle, and come into the back
room with me. It was the kitchen. It may be of
worth at this point to mention that the Church was
a converted house.
Inside, I invited the man and the woman to sit, and
as I had no idea what else to do, I began to explain what we believed and why we believed it. He had many questions, which my hurried answers were somehat poor and, I thought incomplete.
GOD was with me that day. The Man's name was, He said, "Doc and the woman was his wife."
After a few minutes, when I had a feeling of more
comfort, our question and answer conversation took a turn, and we were discussing values and the issues of the day, with a view to understanding each other.
We became fast friends that day, and remain so, even today. Doc may have kept his bike, I don't know, because I never saw it again. Doc even was convinced of the truth of the Gospel of Jesus the Christ, and joined our church by the waters of baptism. Doc and his wife, began to attend our church services, and was given a job, as was his wife, and the children they were to have.
Times change, and with it, we moved away from the California church building. In fact, we even moved to the State of Washington....
Then, about six years later, we recieved a phone call, and it was Doc. They had moved up to the same area of Washington.
Doc was reestabishing friendship with us. And, he wanted me to get him help in unloading his furniture from the moving van into the home he had purchased for his family.
The years went by fast... Doc and his family became
concerned with different things. Doc was a bit apart from the church teachings, not that he was bad or anything, it was that he just did not believe as he had. This difference was his undoing, and before long, Doc was single.
The last I heard, he was selling Insurance in Canada.
Doc's family, however, was in harmony with the core of the church, and were living examples of what the church teaches and of how we are to live.
Today, Doc's wife is remarried, and is a worker in the Oregon Temple. Doc's children are wonderful.
What a wonderful experience it was for me to re-
establish communication with valued friends.
What goes around, comes around. The LORD and our FATHER are kind and loving to allow us to have friends. I hope that you have these same experiences in your life, and that it is good.
Now you have it...
